We will be closed for the fourth of July weekend, July 4 – 6, and our hours will be changing for the remainder of the month of July. Open Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 – 4:00, closed Sunday and Monday.
We will be closed with only a skeleton staff for the month of August.
The mums are all planted, thanks to Karen and the crew! We have a great selection of summer color, combination planters and vegetable greens and herbs.
Let’s take a minute and talk about herbs, my first love in horticulture. We have some terrific choices to add to the natural pest control arsenal. My favorites are the scented geraniums. They have many uses including just taking the fresh leaves and rubbing them on your clothing. (OK, not your fine silk, use your common sense.) They are loaded with juices that can repel mosquitoes and even ticks in the case of rose geranium.
I was recently reminded by my herb mentor, Susun Weed, that the overuse of essential oils is another example of the human propensity to take something good and go overboard with it. To produce a single ounce of essential oil often takes bushels of plant material to produce. Be thoughtful with your consumption of EO’s and go back to using the plant in it’s entirety. There are circumstances when a medicinal dose of a plant or essential oil is necessary, in extreme illness for example, for the rest of us good humoids balance is the key.
